CHICAGO — The Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (IHCC) is proud to announce Toro Construction Corp. CEO Socorro Vazquez as the new Chairwoman of its Board of Directors. A respected industry leader and a strong advocate for Hispanic entrepreneurs, Vazquez brings decades of experience and a proven commitment to empowering small businesses.
Vazquez is also the owner of Toro Construction, a self-performing MBE/DBE/FBE general contracting firm specializing in design/build projects, renovations, and new construction. Toro Construction has built a reputation for high-quality workmanship and the ability to self-perform key trades including carpentry, drywall, and framing.
“I am deeply honored to serve in this new role. It is a privilege and a responsibility I take with immense gratitude,” said Vazquez, who had served as vice-chair of the IHCC board. “As the CEO of Toro Construction, I have witnessed how access, advocacy, and representation open doors for Hispanic-owned businesses.
“My focus as chairwoman will be to champion entrepreneurs, support equitable economic opportunities and uplift the next generation of Latino leaders through mentorship and representation. IHCC plays a vital role in empowering thousands of businesses, and I am committed to leading with integrity and collaboration as we work together to strengthen our economic future.”
With more than 20 years of industry experience, Vazquez has been recognized for her entrepreneurship and leadership, including being named to the EY Winning Women North America class and receiving the Negocios Now Latinas in Business Award. She also serves on the board of UNO, a nonprofit supporting young girls through sports and mental health services.
“It is an honor to welcome Socorro as our new Chairwoman. Her heart for our community, her integrity and her unwavering commitment make her an inspiring leader,” said Jaime di Paulo, IHCC President & CEO. “I look forward to working side by side with her and our entire Board as we continue uplifting and serving our business community.”
IHCC extends its sincere appreciation for the dedication and service of Arthur Zayas Miller, who continues to serve on the board after his three-year term as Board Chairman. His leadership helped strengthen the chamber, expand its reach, and advance programs that support the growth of Hispanic-owned businesses across Illinois.
