CategoriesCEO Letter

Dear Community Members, Policymakers, and Business Leaders,

As the CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, I am deeply concerned about the impact these new reciprocal tariffs will have on our Hispanic-owned small businesses. Illinois is home to thousands of Latino entrepreneurs who rely on global supply chains to keep their businesses running—whether in retail, food services, construction, or auto repair. These tariffs will raise costs, disrupt supply chains, and make it harder for our businesses to stay competitive.

Small businesses already operate on thin margins, and with price increases on essential goods, many will face difficult decisions: absorb the costs, raise prices, or cut expenses elsewhere. This economic strain could slow growth, limit job creation, and create barriers for aspiring Hispanic entrepreneurs.

Now, more than ever, our community must come together to support one another. The Chamber is committed to helping businesses navigate these challenges by connecting them with resources, alternative suppliers, and financial assistance programs. We will continue advocating for policies that promote economic growth for our Hispanic business community.

If you own a small business, we want to hear from you. How will these tariffs impact your operations? Let’s work together to find solutions and ensure that Illinois’ Hispanic businesses not only survive but thrive in this new economic landscape.

Sincerely,
Jaime di Paulo
IHCC President & CEO
