The Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (IHCC) would like to congratulate former McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson for leading a new $70 million venture fund to back minority- and women-founded startups.

“George Floyd’s tragic murder has turned into an opportunity to have conversations that nobody was having before,” said Jaime Di Paulo Zozaya, President & CEO of the IHCC. “And for us, it’s turned into opportunities to have conversations with business leaders like Mr. Thompson about investments and creating wealth in communities of color that just haven’t candidly been had this way.”

When Thompson stepped down from his role as the first Black CEO at McDonald’s in 2015, he launched Cleveland Avenue, a Chicago-based venture capital firm that has invested millions in fast-growing food startups.

In April, Thompson will begin seeding a new crop of entrepreneurs — minority-owned businesses on Chicago’s South and West sides. Its newest venture is a $70 million fund called CAST US, which is industry agnostic and focused entirely on minority entrepreneurs from Chicago’s South and West sides.
