Silvia Bonilla currently serves as the Director of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. A respected leader and expert in small business development, Silvia brings a deep understanding of the dedication, resilience, and strategic focus required to launch and sustain a business in today’s ever-evolving economic landscape.

Her commitment to community empowerment began during her time as an educator with the Chicago Public Schools, where she developed a profound appreciation for the nonprofit sector. Driven by a passion for service and impact, Silvia has since devoted her career to supporting entrepreneurs, particularly those from underserved communities, on their journey to growth and long-term success.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Silvia is a history enthusiast and avid reader with a strong passion for travel, which has fostered her deep interest in international affairs. She serves on the Illinois Advisory Committee for the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and has been actively involved with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the United Nations Association’s Greater Chicago Chapter. She also currently serves on Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Women’s Advisory Council of Chicago.

Silvia holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Loyola University Chicago, as well as a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). She has further honed her leadership expertise through executive education programs focused on nonprofit management and strategic growth at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Originally from El Salvador, Silvia proudly calls Chicago home – a city she cherishes for its amazing history, delicious culinary scene, and dynamic entrepreneurial spirit.
