State Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch was elected the new Speaker of the Illinois House.
Mr. Welch, 49, was first sworn in to the House in 2013 and will start his fifth term. He would be the 70th Speaker of the Illinois House and the first African-American to hold the position.
Representative Welch brings a background of many years of service and has always advocated for fairness for all,” said Jaime di Paulo, President and CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Thanks to the leadership of Representative Welch two years ago, Jaime di Paulo, was invited to Springfield to discuss support for corporate board diversity in Illinois with Governor JB Pritzker.
A new Illinois law signed by Governor JB Pritzker on August 27, 2019, aims to encourage diversity on the board of directors of publicly held domestic and foreign corporations with principal executive offices in Illinois.
The IHCC is looking forward to working with Representative Welch to solve the problems that affect our Latino business community, which has been negatively affected by the current pandemic.
