Dear Members, Partners, and Friends of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,
From the epicenter of power, I reflect on the significant responsibility of actively seeking a brighter future for Latinos in the United States. Within these walls, you can feel the love for America, a place where history is made and the future is defended. It is with immense gratitude that I share my recent experience at the White House, where I had the honor of joining distinguished individuals such as Isabel Casillas Guzman, U.S. Small Business Administrator, Mark Madrid, Associate Administrator, Office of Entrepreneurial Development, Lael Brainard, Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Director of the National Economic Council, Michael Negron, Special Assistant to The President for Economic Policy, Gene Sperling, Coordinator for the American Rescue Plan, and our esteemed colleagues July and Hector Franco from Franco Hauling.
Together, we engaged in a meaningful discussion, sharing insights and the profound impact of the SBA Navigator Pilot Program with Special Advisor to the USHCC, María Fernanda Sierra. It was a testament to the commitment and collaboration that define our community.
Latino small businesses stand at the forefront of the economic recovery in our country, and we at the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce stand united for them. In less than two years, the Community Navigator grantees have delivered training to over 350,000 and provided 1:1 counseling services to over 33,000 small business owners. This program has reached small business owners in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico, embodying SBA Administrator Guzman’s vision of being customer-centric, technology-forward, and advancing equity for all.
Challenges appear different when viewed up close. The SBA Community Navigator Pilot Program has transformed our perspective, placing us at the forefront of our community’s challenges. We walked side by side with small businesses, assuring them of our unwavering support. It wasn’t just about stepping into their shoes but taking every step alongside them.
Our tireless efforts have been instrumental in achieving an outstanding success rate of 97%. We submitted $14.4 million in grants, doubling our initial goal, and increased the number of unique grant applicants by 149%, serving over 1500 individual clients.
We are solution-finders and builders of our future. Rather than waiting behind desks for problems to emerge, we ventured into business corridors, made countless cold calls, and did whatever it took to support the true heroes of our economy—small business owners. This approach is how we build an inclusive economy—by going the extra mile and facing challenges with determination and kindness.
Today, I am filled with pride as I declare, “WE MADE IT.” Together, as a community, we have overcome obstacles, exceeded expectations, and demonstrated the strength that comes from unity and perseverance.
As we move forward, we continue to build upon this success, advocate for the interests of our community, and strive for an even brighter future. The journey is ongoing, and together, we will continue to make a lasting impact.
Thank you for your support and dedication.
Sincerely,
IHCC President & CEO, Jaime di Paulo
