Angelica Alfaro

Director of Government and Community Affairs

Angelica Alfaro currently serves as the Director of Community Outreach and Government Relations at the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In her role, she is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with Latino leaders in Illinois, elected officials, and community and nonprofit organizations.

Angelica has over 15 years of experience. She has tirelessly worked to improve access to high-quality education, scholarships, and economic development opportunities for thousands of families across Illinois. In addition, her leadership in government relations, policy, fundraising, community organizing, and advocacy has left a mark on the city’s landscape.

In 2016, Angelica took on a new challenge by running for State Senate, driven by her desire to effect meaningful change. Despite a closely contested race, her determination and vision prevailed. Following the election, her spirit of service led her to drive cross country to contribute to the 2016 presidential campaign in Nevada, demonstrating her commitment to making a difference on a national level and helping elect the first Latina to the United States Senate.

Angelica’s unwavering belief in our communities’ potential extends beyond education to encompass areas such as public health, violence prevention, environmental advocacy, procurement policy, workforce development, and economic development.

Angelica received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Angelica enjoys grounding herself in her Mexican roots through horseback riding and listening to her parents’ favorite music. She is also an avid orchid collector and loves plants, traveling, and being in nature. She is a proud Tía of 15 nieces and nephews and a mentor to a group of wonderful young women she coached in high school volleyball.
